Imagine one of the most amazing women,
Helen Keller, who was a deaf mute
make the following statement:
Life
is either a daring adventure or nothing.”
Recently, Jimmy Carter, our former President, suffered from dehydration
during a Habitat Build. The incredible factor is that President Carter is in
his 90’s still volunteering and making a difference. He is a living example of
someone that LIVES his life regardless of age in the RISK zone. Most 90 year
olds are home in their rocking chairs remembering their glory days. Often
President Carter is confused as being the founder of Habitat for Humanity. (I’m
sure the founder, Millard Fuller, is humbled.) Carter shouts out the following
to those who want to play it safe;
“Go
out on a limb. That’s where the fruit is.”
Seneca, a Roman Stoic Philosopher nails it with the
following thought;
“It’s not because things are
difficult that we dare not venture. It’s because we dare not venture that they
are difficult.”
I’m
a proponent that if you truly want to go somewhere in life you must learn how
to be a dreamer who is a risk taker and not fearful of failing! T.S. Elliot clearly unfolds this notion
in this quote:
“Only those who will risk going too far can
possibly find out how far it is possible to go.”
I will be the first to confess
that there are many kids of people and that it would be foolish to assume that I
have secret powers to exactly know how far past the E I can drive. Yes, I made
a fool of myself when first married to run out of gas and assume something was
wrong with the car. Fortunately, the 3 A guy had gas and a sense of humor.
So, are you going to be a play it safe type of person or go out on that
limb like President Carter and risk it all to make a difference in the life of
another?
